Melissa Santiago Urrutia (she/her) received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Albizu University in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She completed her predoctoral internship at Duke University Medical Center. Melissa is licensed to provide psychological services in Puerto Rico, and is pursuing supervised practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Prior to moving to Canada, she was working in clinical research and as an adjunct professor for the undergraduate Psychology program at Albizu University.
Throughout her clinical training, Melissa has worked with adolescents, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds. She provides relationship-oriented, trauma-informed and multiculturally sensitive evidence-based psychotherapy.
Melissa has been trained, and has experience providing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, third wave CBTs, NEA BPD's Family Connections program, as well as trauma-focused approaches. Her areas of interest and competence center around difficulties in emotion regulation, interpersonal traumatization, mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and personality disorders. She conducts therapy in English and Spanish.
In her free time, Melissa enjoys cooking homemade meals, running, reading, cuddling her dog, spending time outdoors and exploring new places with her husband, friends, and family.
